Who They Are
Founded in 1987, the Macular Society remains the specialist charity supporting people with macular conditions such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic macular oedema, and inherited retinal dystrophies.

Age-related maculardegeneration (AMD)
A progressive condition that damages the central part of the retina, leading to loss of sharp, central vision.
Diabeticretinopathy
An eye disease caused by diabetes that damages the blood vessels in the retina and can lead to vision loss.
Inherited retinaldystrophies
A group of genetic disorders that affect how the retina functions, often leading to gradual sight loss over time.
What they do
They fight isolation and fear, providing peer support, a specialist helpline and counselling service and practical resources to anyone affected by macular disease. Meanwhile, they have invested more than £10 million into more than 100 projects, supported clinical trials, cutting-edge technology, and scientific breakthroughs
